Strike action by workers providing local authority services in Staffordshire and Derbyshire has been called off after staff accepted a better pay deal, says UNISON today (Tuesday).
Grave diggers, refuse collectors, park wardens and street cleaners employed by Alliance Environmental Services, which runs services for Staffordshire Moorlands and High Peak councils, have accepted a new pay deal that brings staff into line with workers doing similar jobs and who are directly employed by the two councils.
Strikes initially planned for next week have now been called off.
UNISON West Midlands regional organiser Keith McKenzie said:
“Following talks – and the significantly improved multi-year pay offer – workers at Alliance have accepted the deal. This brings them into line with council staff and puts extra cash in their pockets.”
UNISON East Midlands regional organiser Matt Dwyer said:
“These workers serve our local communities with great pride. They work long hours in all weather, cleaning streets, maintaining parks and collecting bins. It’s only right they are fairly rewarded for that work.”
